Pretty handy little article in this month's Real Simple, comparing DSL, cable, and fiber optics (fiber-to-the-premises, such as FiOS) -- in terms of accurately appraising the pros and cons in a relatively tiny amount of words, it's one of the best comparisons I've read so far....
Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words...
Check out these photos blogger Ben Guild posted, of a FiOS installation and a Comcast cable installation, in the same apartment complex...
You've probably seen these kinds of TV ads from cable companies already. Apparently they've been "using fiber optics" for years, and Verizon's sales personnel probably ought to get with it and, uh...eat more roughage...? Huh?
If these cable sales pitches have left you scratching your head over how fiber optics fit into the TV and Internet picture, you're not alone....
"Verizon's fiber-to-the-home networks offers some clear advantages. Here's everything your HDTV needs to know."
The June issue of Sound & Vision has one of, if not the, most informative, in-depth, and accurate articles on FiOS TV I've seen to date...
The recent backlash against certain cable providers compressing their high-def signals has gotten so great that the AP even ran a story on it...
Oregon blogger, family man and self-professed geek Jim Goings switched from Comcast to FiOS last week, and has posted an insightful "real world comparison and review." ...
There's a really interesting discussion going on over at the AVS Forum. Member "bfdtv" posted a very detailed, side-by-side analysis of some sample HD broadcasts from Comcast and Verizon FiOS...
Tech blogger Mathew Collins of onovia.com did comparative speed tests of Comcast and FiOS....
Really informative article today on electronichouse.com, comparing the pros and cons of cable, satellite and FiOS...
Franchise Agreements
Whenever a new TV service provider wishes to enter a given market, it must first negotiate an agreement with that market's governing body...
