well clearly the lesson to be learned here is that... what... fios cheats by not letting the other team use tools? Yay Verizon!

I guess that could be one possible interpretation, Danno. I prefer to think of it more as "the power of FiOS can make anyone a Techno-Guru." It's all done in the spirit of good fun, man, don't take it so seriously. (There's a guy standing in the middle of a suburban street holding a sign that says "I AM THE MOON," for Pete's sake, so I don't think the Nobel committee is going to get involved or anything.) ;)

I'd never even thought to try and turn a webcam into something like that. Well done.

Thanks, Ross! We actually can't take all the credit for the project itself -- we were inspired by this fantastic post on instructables.com. We wanted something that the kids could find help with online...but Guru Brian figured it all out on his own (even with the addition of extraneous ingredients like a heart-shaped chocolate and an old vacuum cleaner belt.)
Stay tuned -- Brian and the other Gurus have some DIY projects coming soon that are truly awe-inspiring.
