New Microsoft Guide Shows How to Boost Speed, Performance

Aug 04, 2008

If, like the 2.0 Families featured on our show, you've acquired a new, high-performance PC in the last year or so, chances are it came with Windows Vista. However, unlike the stars of our show, most of you Vista newbies out there probably have not had a Techno-Guru available to help you tweak the new operating system for optimum speed and performance.

Well, there's a new, downloadable guide available from Microsoft, which lays out a bunch of step-by-step Vista tweaks and configurations.

Of course, if you've had your computer since the 20th Century, these tweaks might not help you much -- you still need a relatively powerful PC with a good amount of RAM to really get the most out of Vista. But by doing some fairly simple tweaks, such as putting your system to sleep rather than shutting down, disabling memory-hogging programs, and defragmenting your hard drive, you should see a difference in performance.

It's nice to be your own Techno-Guru sometimes, huh?
