Above: Live like an NBA superstar! (Chandelier, giant platter of hamburgers, mad b-ball skills not included.)
A very cool deal was just announced today -- new customers who subscribe to FiOS TV between now and Oct. 4 will get a year's use of either an HD DVR or an HD Home Media DVR, free.
In addition, new FiOS TV customers, or customers who upgrade to a bundled package, will get a free month of HBO and Cinemax.
A staple of all the My Home 2.0 makeovers, the FiOS Home Media DVR (a.k.a. Multi-Room DVR) not only provides all the standard features of a regular digital video recorder, it also allows you to stream recorded shows to up to six other TVs in the house, two shows at a time.
Another really cool feature that's included with the Home Media DVR is Media Manager, a program that enables you stream photos and music (as well as video later this year) from your PC to your TV, without having to set up a complicated home network.
Here's our very own Guru Lloyd with a little more on this free feature:

As a makeover winner let me tell you this is such a great addition to the Fios service. The fact that you can watch things in other rooms that were recorded earlier is great. Besides I never did figure out the old school VCRs this is so easy I love it!!

True, they are way easier than VCRs. I still get the occasional phone call from my Mom, needing help with programming her 1994 VCR. The first step of my instructions, thus far unheeded, is always, "Just get a DVR!"
