California non-profit showcases, recycles old tech

How do you know you need a My Home 2.0 makeover? If you're still using one of the ancient gadgets shown on the Alameda County Computer Resource Center's It Ain't Dead Yet blog, that's probably a pretty good sign.

The ACCRC takes donations of old, unwanted computer and electronics equipment, and keeps all those heavy metals and other potentially harmful substances contained inside from leaching into landfills. Some of the stuff gets e-cycled into new electronics, some gets repurposed into cool art projects like "The Skull" (right) and some of these dusty old gizmos actually (kinda) work.

The "It Ain't Dead Yet" blog showcases some of the most interesting pieces of yesteryear's technology, and solicits comments on ideas for making new stuff out of it. So if you find yourself in need of a tech makeover and have old equipment to toss out, don't just haul it to the landfill -- let it live on!

And speaking of tech makeovers, we'll be announcing our newest 2.0 Families very soon, so stay tuned!
