Can't find local channel 4.1

I have two tv's connected to my FIOS signal in MA. One is a Sharp LC-19SB14U and the other is a Sony KDL32XBR4. The Sharp will display my local stations as channels 4.1, 5.1, 7.1 etc. And the channels will be in HD if available (e.g. 5.1 news is in HD). The Sony will not find the HD versions of the local stations. I can find the SD versions at 63.1005 for example, but not the HD versions. It is as though the Sharp is correctly decodeing PSIP info and the Sony is not. Can anyone explain what's going on? Is there a map somewhere which gives the digital channel numbers for all available, unecrypted channels?

I have contacted Sony Support for you and here is what they have asked me to have you check:
Please set the Cable option ON in the Channel Settings of the TV, and then also select the Add Digital Channels in the same Channel Settings of the TV. This should display the over-the-air HD channels on the TV.

They also first asked to be sure that you are plugged into the UHF/VHF input on your TV. I would say this is not your issue since your SD content is coming through with no troubles. This support site allows you to contact them by phone, email, web site support or live chat. There is a lot of good info on Sony’s site.

Also, another really cool web site for you to check out is antennaweb.org. This site will give you the over-the-air channel mapping according to your zip code.

Thanks for your help on my behalf. Unfortunately, I too had contacted Sony and essentially got the same response you did. I have tried the things you/they suggested and still cannot find the HD versions of my local stations. I guess I'll have to watch them no my 19" kitchen set instead of the 32" Sony :).

From another forum I understood that the channel 4.1 designation was really a mapping of another channel for convenience. That is the HD channel might be xxx.yyyy, but the informaiton in the PSIP record has it mapped to 4.1 so that it is placed next to the original channel designation (eg. 4). If this is true, it would be interesting to know the "real" channel number to see if I can directly tune to that channel.

After my recent post I once again started searching the web and came across what may be the proplem. Apparently there is a problem with Verizon's PSIP signal that is causing this issue with various makes of TV's (Sony being one). The link to the story is http://text.dslreports.com/forum/r19439993-QAM-Changes-from-Philly-VHO~mode=text~days=10~start=280 which deals with the Philadelphia area, but apparently it is system wide. The posters have been pushing this issue with Verizon since November and are now being told it may be fixed in July in the Philadelphia area (although there have been earlier promises). If this is the cause, and I'm not doubting all the posts with similar problems, it is a shame that Verizon has not owned up to the issue and clearly indicated when it will be resolved.
