I heard about OLED's recently and that they're gong to start useing them in TV's but what is the difference? The O is for organic i think but what does that mean? Do they use less energy or are they better for the enviroment? Should I wait until these come out before I buy a new TV?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Freddy!

OLED, LEP and OEL's are light-emitting diodes where the elctro-luminescence layer is made of organic compounds. The main benefit OLED's offer over traditional LCD's is that OLED's do not need a backlight to operate. This conserves power, and makes for thinner screens. The drawback to OLED's are their lifespan; but word on the street is that Toshiba and Panasonic have developed a solution that doubles the lifespan of OLED's.

I have an OLED watch, and the display is quite clear. I can watch videos, view pictures and read text on it without any problems.

hope this helps!
